I am someone who is all about scents, ask my husband who is all too familiar with my constant sniffing…him. Yes, I am awkward like that 🙂. One thing which bugs me A LOT is when i cook, especially South Asian food- It takes over the entire house. I used to run around closing all the bedroom doors, and lighting candles until i discovered natural deodorizers. They are so quick and easy to put together and start working instantly. It’s perfect for a household with kids as well. Since i had my daughter i cut down my candle usage and now that she’s running around all over the place i stopped using them completely. This is a safe alternative and did i mention smells better then a candle and is all NA-TU-RAL. You can use ingredients right from your kitchen or yard and get smelling away!

I normally always keep a small pot on my stove and as soon as i turn of my cooking stoves i turn this one on for 10-15 minutes. I used to transfer this mixture into a jar to store until next use, but i use it so often i just leave it there. Here is my go to recipe for this season.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 1 orange ( I sometimes replace the orange with limes or lemons depending on what i have available or whats going to spoil sooner.  )
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 cloves
  • water to fill pot

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Mix all of the above ingredients into a pot and brew on your stove for 10-15 minutes. Discard after 3-4 days.

You can mix an array of fruits, spices, and herbs to achieve the scent you like best. During the summer i use lavender and mint from the garden often.

Have you tried a natural deodorizer before? What combinations do you think would produce a yummy scent? Please share and I’ll share more of my deodorizer recipes in future posts!
